Susan K. Spurgeon
Susan Spurgeon is an experienced litigator who focuses on real property issues, with an emphasis on complex title and boundary disputes, eminent domain and agricultural law. She also has extensive experience in environmental law, representing clients in Superfund litigation, environmental permitting and environmental enforcement matters. Susan rounds out her practice with a variety of general commercial litigation in the State and Federal courts of Florida as well as practicing administrative law before Federal, State and local agencies.
Susan brings a common sense and proactive approach to her litigation practice, always working for the best outcome for her clients – whether through a negotiated settlement or hard fought litigation. Susan believes that understanding the underlying reasons for an opposing party’s action in litigation is key to achieving a better outcome for her clients. Thus, her experience in representing both private entities and governmental authorities provides her a unique insight into her clients’ conflicts.
Susan is a member of the Executive Committee of the Real Property Section of the Florida Bar and serves as the Chairman of its Real Property Litigation Committee. She also serves as an editor for legislative proposals forwarded by the Real Property Section, assisting in the Real Property Section’s effort to improve Florida’s real property laws. Her work with the Real Property and Environmental and Land Use Sections and long standing membership on the Eminent Domain Committee of the Florida Bar provide experience and insight which benefit her clients. Susan has an AV Preeminent® rating from Martindale-Hubbell’s peer review rating system, which represents the highest level of professional excellence for ethical standards and legal ability.
Susan’s personal experiences are widely varied, from co-owning and co-managing a working farm to serving her community through hosting international students in her home. These experiences help round out Susan’s understanding and assist her in effectively representing her clients.
Susan and her husband enjoy studying history, with an emphasis on the Civil War, and a variety of outdoor activities.
