Jacqueline R.A. Root
Jacqueline Root focuses her practice on the representation of hospitals, physicians, and other healthcare providers and facilities, defending against claims for medical malpractice at the trial and appellate levels. She also advises healthcare providers and facilities on how to proactively manage their risks to reduce the frequency and severity of claims, and provides counsel and training on HIPAA issues, adverse incident reporting, subpoenas, confidentiality, and privilege issues.
Jacqueline has significant experience handling birth injury claims, transplant cases, and an array of complex high-acuity cases, as well as developing privileged patient safety documentation programs. Jacqueline has particular interest in the development of documentation best practices to support quality care and minimize litigation, as well as the protection of peer review and quality improvement information.
She is a frequent author, speaker, and presenter on these topics, as well as risk management and patient safety developments, telemedicine, and statutory developments affecting medical malpractice litigation. An active member of the Florida Society for Healthcare Risk Management and Patient Safety (FSHRMPS), Jacqueline is the chair of the FSHRMPS Communications Committee, and Editor of the RiskNet Online Journal. She is also a Director of the Florida Defense Lawyers Association (FDLA), and serves as Board Liaison to the FDLA CLE Committee and Young Lawyers Division.
Jacqueline graduated from Georgetown Law and has been named a Florida Super Lawyers Rising Star consistently since 2015. She also has substantial prior experience in appellate brief writing and the litigation of complex commercial claims, class action defense, and creditors’ rights and bankruptcy matters.
Jacqueline grew up in Palm Harbor, Florida, and lives in Tampa. She enjoys good bourbon, baking pies, and boating with her family. Jacqueline and her husband, George, have two young daughters.
